Jason Ajemian
Infusing dense jazz experimentation with shots of free verse and playful post-pop, New York City-based bassist and composer Jason Ajemian brings his Folklords project to Athens for a night of sonic exploration. On the combo’s recently released album—named as one of the 10 best jazz albums of 2014 by The Wire—Ajemian and company, including multi-instrumentalist Owen Stewart-Robertson and virtuosic drummer Jason Nazary, craft improv-heavy movements based loosely on the work of jazz giants like Mingus, Monk and Sun Ra. Nazary will do double duty Friday as a member of the Kenosha Kid Oceans Duo, a collaboration with Athens composer Dan Nettles “inspired by waves, windstorms and sandcastles.”
