"Down at the Station"
“Stories Told in Bits and Pieces: Collage Works by Susan Pelham” presents over two dozen collages illustrating the words of writers. Pulling inspiration from nursery rhymes, children’s camp songs, parables and other literary works, Pelham often hides references or jokes within her compositions. Blending fantasy and narrative, her collages are heavily influenced by magic realism and the works of Gabriel García Márquez and Franz Kafka. The artist, who graduated with degrees in painting and art history from Florida State University in 1963, currently teaches painting in Madison and at her home in Monroe. The exhibition will remain on view through October.
