Monsoon performed on the 2014 Athens music float.
Dozens of decorated floats, marching bands, performance troupes and civic groups will bring in the holiday season during the Downtown Parade of Lights, this year themed “It’s Christmastime in the City.” Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the annual Athens music float—sponsored by Flagpole, the 40 Watt Club and AthFest—which stars the Athens Cowboy Choir singing traditional western ballads and tunes from “just outside the city.” The procession kicks off on the corner of Dougherty and Pulaski Streets, heads down Pulaski onto Clayton, then swings around on Thomas Street to march along Washington Street towards College Avenue. As per tradition, the parade will conclude in front of City Hall, where Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will host the official lighting ceremony of downtown’s giant tree.
