Lisa Freeman Reception

Sunday, Dec. 6 @ Oconee County Library

“White Washed Haint” by Lisa Freeman

Lisa Freeman’s “Miniature Worlds” and “Between Women and Children,” two series of sculptural assemblages on display through December, are evocative constructions of layered materials and messages. Freeman creates 3D collage sculptures that incorporate found objects, photographs, illustrations and meaningful fragments of cutout text. The result is a quasi-narrative commentary on origins, secrets, nostalgia and imagination. While functioning in the realm of folk art, Lisa’s assemblages harken to the mid-20th Century Neo-Dada movement. Like Neo-Dada artists, Freeman’s work communicates with viewers by establishing an open network of relations rather than through a coherent or conventionally beautiful aesthetic. The viewer’s imagined response completes the artwork, speaking to the creative power of the mind.
