“Waltzing Matilda”

New York City-based artist Alice Aycock has been creating large-scale installations in earth and industrial materials since the ‘70s, addressing themes related to the environment, architecture and the philosophical ramifications of technology. Her lecture will share stories from her career, illustrated by works related to the interplay between nature and mankind. Two of Aycock’s sculptures, “Waltzing Matilda” and “Twin Vortexes,” are currently on view in the museum’s Jane and Harry Willson Sculpture Garden, a space dedicated to the works of women sculptors. The pair were created as part of “Park Avenue Paper Chase,” a collection of seven stark white aluminum and fiberglass sculptures designed to visualize the movement of wind energy as they touched down on the original installation site in the Upper East Side.
