“The Artist is Present,” 2010 performance at MoMA
In a career spanning more than 40 years, legendary performance artist Marina Abramović has led her viewers into groundbreaking and often alarming artistic territory. Positioning her body as the art object, Abramović’s work provokes and confronts what humans fear the most, vulnerability, destroying the lines between audience and spectacle and performance and life. As part of a “Behind the Scenes” film series, the museum will screen the film documenting her most ambitious work to date, a three-month-long, silent sit-in at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. The series complements the current “Tools of the Trade” exhibition.
The Grandmother of Performance Art reveals the preparation that went into her retrospectie exhibition of controversial work at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Presented in conjunction with the museum's current exhibition, "Tools of the Trade." See Calendar Pick on p. 38.
