Greg Benson

Friday, Mar. 25 @ Farmington Depot Gallery

The artist-run gallery’s first exhibition of the year presents the idyllic landscapes of local artist Greg Benson, who draws much of his inspiration from childhood experiences growing up in rural Pennsylvania. While pursuing an MFA in the early ’90s, his artwork gravitated away from narrative and figurative—an influence of his background in journalism—towards landscapes of old industrial Athens and pastoral scenes. His new body of work, “Oil Compass,” features eight paintings that create a 360-degree panorama when viewed together. Stripping out unnecessary man-made clutter like cars, billboards and buildings, the paintings present a serene late-winter morning in the countryside. “Oil Compass” will remain on view through April.
