"River Cane" by Beth Thompson

Beth Thompson’s nature photography presents kaleidoscopic compositions that simulate the wonder and beauty of microcosms and macrocosms. The ongoing series “Possible Perceptions,” named for its ability to offer alternative views of landscapes, creates complex patterns through simple digital manipulations, such as patterns of leaves resembling diatoms. For her latest installment, “Ocean Bound: Upstream and Downstream,” she pulled images from around the Broad River, coastal rivers around Savannah and off Jekyll Island. Influenced by naturalist William Bartram, who documented his trek across the Southeast 250 years ago, Thompson seeks to inspire others to explore the world around them. “Ocean Bound” will remain on view through Friday, Aug. 29.
