Tanya Aguiñiga
Los Angeles-based, Tijuana-raised designer Tanya Aguiñiga, whose work appears in “Textiles: The Sense of Touch,” has dedicated much of her career to community-based projects. Two of her pieces in the fiber arts exhibition demonstrate how craft can be used as a performative medium capable of establishing a sense of connectedness among participants. “Felt Me” was made by a team who felted a full body-suit onto the artist, while the woolen gloves in “Hand in Hand” were created by a chain of people working in unison. Aguiñiga’s visit to Athens is funded by the Jack Davis Lecture Series and the Lamar Dodd School of Art.
The guest artist leads a gallery discussion of "Textiles: The Sense of Touch" followed by a reception and video viewing. See Calendar Pick on p. 17.
