An Evening With Cake

Sunday, Sept. 25 @ Classic Center

Alt-rock band Cake is politically driven, socially aware and churns out some really catchy tunes. With chart-topping singles (think “The Distance” and “Short Skirt/Long Jacket”), Cake combines sarcastic, monotone lyrics with pop-influenced beats accentuated by the appearance of horns and the occasional woodwind instrument. Although the group’s most recent album, Showroom of Compassion, was released in 2011, the band performs regularly at festivals and venues across the globe, with the intent of spreading information through music. With Cake coming to town ahead of this year’s presidential election, the audience may get to hear a full-on political rant while head-bobbing along.
