Kandace Springs

Nashville native Kandace Springs was immersed in the music industry from a young age, and her original material occasionally comes off as overly cautious. But it largely succeeds on the strength of her rich singing voice, which inspired Prince Rogers Nelson to invite Springs to join his Purple Rain 30th-anniversary concert in 2014. That break landed the young singer on famed label Blue Note, which released her debut full-length, Soul Eyes—a light-hearted amalgam of jazz, pop, soul and R&B—earlier this year. Songs like the title track and “Too Good to Last,” both of which feature trumpeter Terence Blanchard, prove that Springs is at her strongest in sultry jazz-singer mode.
