The second Cause + Effect Georgia Progressive Film Competition and Festival, hosted by Alliance for a Better Georgia, challenges aspiring filmmakers to identify social, political, economic and environmental issues facing the state and propose solutions. Topics addressed by this year’s short semi-finalists range from gun violence, police brutality and homelessness to veterans who farm and artists living with Asperger syndrome. The showcase will screen finalists determined by online voting and a panel of judges consisting of Kamala Lyons of Ciné, Andrew Shearer of the Athens Banner-Herald and Sara Beresford of the EcoFocus Film Festival. The winner will receive $1,000, second place wins $500, and third place wins $100. [This year's event is sold out, but a waiting list is available through eventbrite.com.]
