Gypsy Wildcats
Drawing from time-tested Dixieland and gypsy jazz influences, local low-key supergroup Gypsy Wildcats will host a “post-turkey celebration” Friday evening to help get your mind off those leftovers. The five-piece, which features members of Cicada Rhythm, the Athens Cowboy Choir, Trio Deluxe and others, utilizes acoustic guitar, standup bass, violin, mandolin, banjo and harmonica, making for an old-timey yet subtly contemporary sound. The post-Thanksgiving gypsy jazz celebration actually lasts for two nights at Hendershot’s; Saturday will feature the similarly minded Hot Club of Athens, which features lauded indie-pop singer-songwriter Kaoru “Kishi Bashi” Ishibashi on violin, doing its thing.
GYPSY WILDCATS Local group laying classic Django Reinhardt gypsy swing tunes, as well as Americana and old vaudeville standards.
HOT CLUB OF ATHENS Multinational four-piece jazz project featuring locals Kishi Bashi, Keiko Ishibashi, Antoon Speters and Elijah Smith.
