Unsilent Night

This recent staple of the Athens holiday season is sure to up your cheer factor. Conceived by Phil Kline—a New York musician and composer known for fronting The Del-Byzanteens, an early no-wave group that also featured filmmaker Jim Jarmusch—Unsilent Night is a wintry “moving sound sculpture” that consists of four tracks designed to be played simultaneously. Anyone who wants to participate can download one of the tracks to their mobile device ahead of time, or show up with a boombox and receive a cassette tape or CD. After meeting at Little Kings Shuffle Club, the nouveau-carolers will press “play” and parade through the streets.

Unsilent Night
Participate in a public performance of "Unsilent Night." The 45-minute electronic piece, designed "specifically to be heard outdoors in the month of December" by composer Phil Kline, was debuted in New York City in 1992 and is performed around the world. Meet at Little Kings and bring portable music players for a walk around downtown. See story on p. 9.
