David J. Haskins’ latest double LP, Vagabond Songs, is a perfect Rosetta Stone for the former Bauhaus and Love and Rockets singer and bassist’s storied career. Drop a needle on “The Day That David Bowie Died” and a slow procession of glitter-dusted Americana textures take shape as a wistful paean to the fallen Mr. Jones. The gothic connotations of J’s former bands take a backseat to the bucolic psychedelia of his more refined solo fair, as he tours the country for his ongoing Living Room series. Each night, he finds new story threads that weave together classics, crowd pleasers and new songs. After the show, DJs Wardaddy and CROWE spin a set of goth, synthpop and industrial hits for as long as the law will allow.
