Few country singers have enjoyed the sustained commercial success of Ronnie Milsap, who had 40 No. 1 country hits between 1974–1989, second only to George Strait and Conway Twitty. Not all chart-topping songs have staying power, but almost anyone who grew up around country music will instantly recognize “Smoky Mountain Rain” and the vainglorious “(There’s) No Getting Over Me.” Milsap chased fame the old-fashioned way, singing and playing piano in bars around Atlanta in the 1960s, years before he became a bonafide Nashville star. Now, Milsap is bringing his “Farewell Tour” to Georgia, a state with an unsung role in his Country Music Hall of Fame career.
