From “Neutral Language: Rachel and Declan,” a series by Trevor Blake and Drew Hudgins
Dedicated to showcasing locals on the rise, “Emerges” is a rite of passage for many aspiring artists. For the series’ 10th anniversary, curator Madeline Bates approached four Athenians who share an inclination towards inspiring social change through their creative practices. Trevor Blake promotes experimentation in fashion and self-expression through a series of collaborative photographic works, while Caty Cowsert offers large-scale prints and a series of political protest ceramic tiles. Courtney McCracken’s installation features collages and zines created for Athens Free School, which she co-founded, while Mariah Parker’s installation combines elements of her hip-hop lyrics with data analyses drawn from her graduate research in linguistics. “Emerges X” will remain on view through July 16.
"ATHICA Emerges X" showcases art to promote social change by Trevor Blake, Caty Cowsert, Courtney McCracken and Mariah Parker. See Calendar Pick on p. 15.
