“The Encounter” by Chuck Murphy
The large-scale photographs by entomologist Jena Johnson and award-winning nature photographer Chuck Murphy offer face-to-face encounters with many of the insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and plants that call Athens home. The images were shot for the Meet Your Neighbors project, a worldwide photography initiative that encourages people to reconnect with the natural world by getting up close and personal with wildlife. Each subject is presented against a stark white background to maximize the intricacy of details that are often invisible to the naked eye, like the iridescence of a blue skink’s tail or the hairs of a fly’s leg. The exhibition will remain on view in the Visitor Center through Oct. 8.
"Meet Your Neighbors" features enlarged macrophotography from Chuck Murphy and Jena Johnson. See Calendar Pick on p. 14.
