A.J. Croce is the product of folk royalty—his father is the late, great Jim Croce—but the accomplished songwriter and pianist has carved out his own musical path, as evidenced by his brand new album, Just Like Medicine. The record, which features contributions from Vince Gill, David Hood and a slew of Muscle Shoals session players, is a joyous affair steeped in Southern blues and soul, with a touch of Americana grit. It also features a faithful reworking of an unreleased song written by the elder Croce shortly before his death, “Name of the Game.” Croce hits Athens for a show at Hendershot’s Saturday.
A.J. CROCE The son of legendary musician Jim Croce plays soulful Southern roots-rock. See Calendar Pick on p. 14.
