In the new documentary Chasing Coral, a team of researchers and underwater photographers set out to provide evidence of the alarming rate at which reef ecosystems are vanishing. Breathtakingly colorful reefs teeming with life wither away into bleached graveyards as a result of trapped greenhouse gases and warming waters. Chasing Coral will be preceded by a screening of Dan Aguar’s Down to the Plastic Ocean, a short film named as a spinoff of a song by Kathy Kirbo, who is the executive director of the Reef Ball Foundation, an Athens-based nonprofit that rehabilitates marine reef ecosystems worldwide. A panel discussion with the filmmakers and and key film subjects will follow the main feature.
