New to the Athens scene but well established on the wider folk landscape, local group The Moonshine combines traditional Appalachian instrumentation with a lyrical restlessness and punk-rock spirit, creating a unique but accessible Americana sound. The group, whose West Coast version operated as a five-piece but which currently takes the stripped-down form of guitarist and vocalist Michael Levasseur, autoharpist Rachael Renee and bass player Evan Bradford, is readying the release of a new album, The Cuckoo’s Crooked Path, planned for next year. They’re joined at Flicker on Saturday by Louisiana’s Cullen Wade & the Waters and local roots-ramblers Driftwood.
