Words at the Threshold by Lisa Smartt

In her new book Words at the Threshold: What We Say as We’re Nearing Death, Athens linguist and educator Lisa Smartt studies and interprets end-of-life communication to better understand the physical, mental and spiritual changes people undergo in their final days. Pulling from over 100 case studies that include interviews and transcripts, she explores the relationship between terminal illness and cognitive function. Smartt will be joined by Raymond Moody, a philosopher, psychologist, physician and author who wrote the foreword of her book. A leading authority on research pertaining to life after death, Moody coined the term “near-death experience” in 1975 in his book Life After Life.
