A follow-up to their collaborative 2014 exhibition, “A Conspiracy II” combines oil paintings by Manda McKay and collages by Kenneth Aguar. With a background in medical illustration, McKay creates hyperrealistic still-lifes that arrange natural materials—shells, feathers, fruits, bones—in provocative ways that suggest commentaries on beauty, sexuality and sociopolitical ideas. Demonstrating some cool cut-and-paste craftsmanship, Aguar creates new narratives from a hodgepodge of vintage imagery blending science fiction and popular culture. The opening reception will feature a chance to meet both artists, as well as a set by DJ Nate from Wuxtry. “A Conspiracy II” will remain on view through February.
"A Conspiracy II" features collages by Kenny Aguar and paintings by Manda McKay. See Calendar Pick on p. 20.
