Guitarist Jonathan Richman’s most significant contribution to the modern-rock canon was as a member of proto-punk legends the Modern Lovers, but he has spent the vast majority of his 40-plus-year career writing and performing sweetly earnest acoustic story-songs. Last year, Richman released Ishkode! Ishkode!, his first full-length in half a decade. He swings through Athens on Wednesday for his anticipated annual stop at the 40 Watt Club, with longtime drummer Tommy Larkins providing a tasteful rhythmic backdrop. Singer-songwriter Ane Diaz, once an Athens-music fixture known for her work with the bands Producto and The Causey Way, opens.
