One of our state’s most skilled and dedicated bluesmen, guitarist and singer-songwriter Tinsley Ellis rose to prominence in the late 1970s and early ’80s with Atlanta groups like the Heartfixers and the Alley Cats before collaborating with the late Col. Bruce Hampton and members of Widespread Panic in Georgia jam supergroup Stained Souls. He’s released a steady string of solo albums over the years, with the latest, Winning Hand, out recently on Alligator Records. The 10-song record showcases Ellis’ nimble picking and road-worn singing voice, with highlights including the smoky “Gamblin’ Man” and chooglin’ “Satisfied.” He hits The Foundry on Sunday for a special solo performance.
