Directed by local filmmaker James Preston, Athens Rising is a full-length documentary highlighting some of the current movers and shakers of the Classic City’s creative class. The film is the first installment of Sicyon, a project that anticipates twice-yearly releases zeroing in on different slices of life each time. Offering an introduction to the variety of projects in town, Athens Rising bounces among music, dance, stand-up comedy, theater, visual art and the origins of AthFest. Leaning towards private homes and unconventional venues, the film includes footage of performances from the Pity Party Social Club, Krakin Jokes, Volumes Hip Hop, Underground Dance Society and Peepa Show.
