Hale's studio
After creating the commemorative mural “Birdsong” on the building wall next to Rook & Pawn for AthFest’s 25th anniversary in 2016, it feels appropriate that David Hale should have an exhibition on the same downtown block during peak festival time. “Vessel” is a collection of new paintings and prints by the world-renowned illustrator and tattoo artist, who over the past year has taken the time to learn the process of making woodcuts, a new-to-him relief printing technique. Honoring the beauty of the natural world, viewers can expect images of native animals rendered in a black, white and red color palette. Hale’s artwork will remain on view through Sunday, July 29.
