Mark Hosler
A giant of contemporary experimental music, California art collective Negativland introduced the concept of “culture jamming” to an unsuspecting public back in the 1980s, mashing up found sound and images with aplomb, de- and recontextualizing brands, bands and other bits of sacred Americana along the way. The group, which famously flouted music-biz norms and copyright law during its heyday—the 1991 U2 EP being perhaps the most famous example of its anarchic approach—was co-founded by composer Mark Hosler, who plays a rare gig at Hendershot’s on Saturday. Hosler is now a North Carolina resident, and his electronic solo work is noise-oriented and free.
