An associate of the outlaw country movement that cemented names like Willie, Waylon, Merle and Cash in the public consciousness, Kris Kristofferson left the Army in 1965 to pursue a career in music and never looked back. The guitarist has released nearly 20 studio albums, including the 1972 classic Jesus Was a Capricorn, plus hits like “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down,” Kristofferson is also an accomplished actor who appeared in the 1976 A Star Is Born remake, as well as the Blade series. The songwriter, who has battled memory loss in recent years but is musically spry, hits Athens with his group The Strangers to perform a career-spanning set.
