With his band The Whigs, guitarist and singer Parker Gispert helped usher in a new era of Athens rock and roll in the early 2000s. Now, with that group largely on hiatus, the Nashville-based songwriter has gone solo with Sunlight Tonight, an eight-song LP out Friday, Nov. 16 on Normaltown Records. The album is a mostly stripped-down affair that finds Gispert casually dabbling in autumnal folk (“Through the Canvas”), Malkmusian verve (“Volcano”) and oddball rocktronica (“Is It 9?”), among other styles. He headlines a Nowhere Bar gig Saturday to celebrate the new record’s release, with local support from Thayer Sarrano, who’s got a terrific new live album out.
