Reflecting a deep relationship with the natural world, Barbara Odil creates sculptures that give new life to foraged wood gathered from forests, deserts, seashores and gardens. At first glance, many of her sculptures in “Shifting Shapes—Collaborations with Nature” appear simply as unusual wooden pieces, but on closer look, knots become faces and spindly branches become postured limbs. The opening reception will begin with Odil giving a talk on her artistic process, which involves combinations of curing, sanding, carving, drilling, pegging, oiling and embellishing. Located in the Quiet Gallery on the second floor, the exhibition will remain on view through Saturday, Jan. 12.
"Shifting Shapes–Collaborations with Nature" features the work of local artist Barbara Odil. See Calendar Pick on p. 20.
