Mean Queen
Athens trio Mean Queen released a dang burner of a debut with last year’s Take a Cool Pill EP, which harked back to Athens’ mid-aughts rock renaissance—little surprise, since guitarist Samantha Paulsen and bassist Helen Rhinehart cut their teeth in bygone local faves We Versus the Shark and Chrissakes, respectively. Now joined by drummer Tim Payne, the group’s recent live shows have found it fully flexing its power-trio muscle. Saturday’s Caledonia bill is, in fact, a trifecta of heavy rock goodness, as riff lords Double Ferrari and scuzzsters Church Purse—formerly known as Waitress—share the stage.
DOUBLE FERRARI Local metal band playing virtuosic, riff-laden, instrumental rock.
MEAN QUEEN Local rock three-piece with a fiery, discordant sound. See Calendar Pick on p. 14.
CHURCH PURSE Noise-rock band formerly known as Waitress.
