On her new album, Nighttime Birds and Morning Stars, released in January via Thrill Jockey, Asheville, NC guitarist Sarah Louise Henson uses her traditional folk and Americana background as an earthy base for cosmic exploration. Billed as a tribute to the healing power of nature, Nighttime Birds is never less than stunning, with Henson’s processed electric guitar providing a chirping counterpoint to her thunderous drones. The heady, improvisational LP is one of the most exultant guitar records in recent memory. Local explorers Cloud Powers and Michael Potter share what will surely be a special bill.
