Lauren Fensterstock
The Lamar Dodd School of Art’s 2018–2019 Distinguished Dodd Chair, Lauren Fensterstock, shares “Portal,” a series created while in residence at the art school. Fensterstock, who will offer a lecture earlier in the day at 12:20 p.m., creates elaborate sculptures influenced by modernism, rococo patterning and women’s crafts. In “Behind the Darkness,” MFA student Sanaz Haghani investigates the veiling of Muslim Iranian women and the doctrine, contradictions and cultural influence of the hijab through a series of prints, while Kentucky artist Siavash Tohidi takes a critical look at displacement and architecture in Baltimore through “Rowhomes.” “The 2019 Science and Medical Illustration Exhibition” shares works by undergrad students at UGA and grad students at Augusta University.
Celebrate exhibitions by Siavash Tohidi, Sanaz Haghani, students studying scientific illustration, and Lauren Fensterstock, the Distinguished 2018-2019 Dodd Chair. See Calendar Pick on p. 14.
