Chamber Music Athens

May 14–21 @ Multiple Venues

George Crumb

Presented by UGA’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music, the inaugural Chamber Music Athens festival offers 10 days of performances by faculty, students and visiting artists, like the Jupiter and New York Philharmonic string quartets. Several programs take themes from their specific venues or other art forms, such as “Botanic Musicale: Music of Nature” at the State Botanical Garden and “Inspired by Romance: Kreutzer Sonata,” which includes excerpts from Leo Tolstoy’s Romantic novella, at Seney-Stovall Chapel. A special program at the Georgia Museum of Art will celebrate composer George Crumb’s 90th birthday with the Georgia premiere of “Metamorphoses,” a piano piece inspired by 10 famous paintings.
