Elizabeth Barton

Loyal patrons ought to recognize the distinctive textiles of the Quiet Gallery’s new artist, Elizabeth Barton, who also created the three large quilts that have decorated the library’s stairwells for the past several years. Born in York, England, Barton moved to Athens in 1984 after obtaining her PhD in clinical psychology. While working at UGA, she became interested in art quilts after receiving an NEA grant in 1995, and since retirement, has dedicated her time to both wall hangings and paintings alike that explore industrial, architectural and natural landscapes. Barton’s exhibition will remain on view in the library’s second-floor gallery through July 28.
