Shirley Chambliss
“A Room of Their Own” invited five artists working in different mediums—Hannah Duggan, Lisa Freeman, Alice Schindell, Stephanie Sutton and Chastity Williams—to design their own independent “rooms” within the larger gallery. Freeman, for example, created “Dark Cotton,” a space intended to shed light on the lives impacted by the cotton industry’s racially biased history. “Sense of Touch,” by Shirley Chambliss, is an experimental installation intended to expand viewers’ perceptions of fiber, a seemingly ordinary material that can be transformed into extraordinary crafted art. Formerly an architectural interior designer, Chambliss works from her studio at OCAF. Both exhibitions will remain on view through July 12.
The annual Members Exhibition showcases original art by 165 artists who support OCAF.
