Athens Rising: The Sicyon Project, which debuted at last year’s AthFest, is a documentary that skips among vignettes in unconventional performance spaces to explore the music, comedy, theater, dance and visual art scenes. Local director James Preston has finished the second installment of his ongoing film series in time for this year’s festival, shifting his focus to the difficult, ongoing work local institutions do to build community through the arts. Athens Rising 2, which features interviews and footage of Avid Bookshop, ATHICA, Nuçi’s Space, the Lyndon House, the Wild Rumpus and many others, will premiere on Friday at 7:30 p.m. A double feature on Saturday will include Athens Rising at 2 p.m. and its sequel at 4 p.m.
