Praying Out Loud in Public

Wednesday, July 10 @ UGA Special Collections Libraries

Coleman Barks, who taught at UGA for three decades, rose to fame after his translations of the work of Rumi, Islam’s most revered poet, hit bestseller lists. He has additionally published 11 collections of his own poetry. The exhibition “Praying Aloud in Public: The Papers of Coleman Barks” includes selections from the Coleman Barks Papers, a collection of approximately 50,000 pages of manuscripts that opened for research in the Hargrett Library in 2018. Among personal and professional correspondence, photographs and miscellaneous memorabilia, the collection features 45 years of dream journals. On view in the Rotunda Gallery, the exhibition will remain on view through Aug. 23.
