Directed by G. Derek Adams, Town & Gown’s production of Shakespeare’s classic comedy hits all the marks of what makes a story survive over the centuries: unrequited love, magic, mistaken identities and plenty of confusion. Occurring around the marriage celebrations of Theseus, Duke of Athens (Adam Shirley), to Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons (Kathleen McGovern), the story weaves four interconnecting plots, including a play within a play. Four lovers in a romantic tangle (Helen DeMott, Nina G. Guzman, Patrick Najjar and Mark Taylor) become even more perplexed after fairy folk intervene with an enchanted love potion that causes everyone to wonder if everything was just a dream.
Presented by Town & Gown, this classic Shakespeare comedy has withstood the test of time. There's a terrible play within a play, unrequited love, mistaken identities, fairies and general shenanigans. It all works out in the end, of course. Or was it all just a dream?
