Despite Lunar Vacation’s celestial name, the “pool rock” band won’t be far from home when it plays Athens this week. Hailing from Atlanta, the quintet formed in high school, and three years on, it’s released two EPs. Lunar Vacation has maintained its laid-back air as it’s flowed from the breezy shimmer of early single “Anna” into the beachy, surfy vibe of the 2017 EP Swell and melted into the stronger psychedelic energy of the 2018 outing Artificial Flavors. This year, the group teamed up with Uncool Records—run by politically minded Oakland, CA punk rockers SWMRS—to press its music to vinyl for the first time. The young band’s future looks as dreamy as its sound.
