Conrado Isasa cut his teeth with the Euro post-hardcore band A Room With a View, but his solo work finds the Madrid-based artist exploring the soaring peaks and contemplative valleys of American primitive guitar, set against a backdrop of traditional Spanish composition. Like those of his hero John Fahey, Isasa’s songs are warm and challenging, conjuring both the calm before the storm and the tempest itself. Isasa’s third LP, Insilio, released in April, sees the guitarist diving “even deeper into his own personal language,” per famed critic Byron Coley. Thursday’s Flicker bill is a world of its own, with Research Triangle duo Magic Tuber Stringband and locals Madelune Polites and Michael Potter rounding things out.
