In a genre overrun with Toby Keith acolytes, singer-songwriter Brent Cobb is one of a vanguard of contemporary artists putting a fresh, inclusive spin on country music. The Ellaville native enlisted his cousin, Grammy-winning engineer Dave Cobb, to produce his breakthrough LP, last year’s Providence Canyon, named for the peculiar South Georgia landmark and brimming with red-dirt spirit. A songwriting phenom who has also penned tracks for Miranda Lambert, Kenny Chesney and Luke Bryan, Cobb’s original work is creative and compassionate, indebted to Muscle Shoals boogie as much as Nashville twang. Brooklyn, NY, Americana group The National Reserve joins Cobb and Them at the Georgia Theatre.
BRENT COBB & THEM Folk and rock-influenced country singer-songwriter from South Georgia. See Calendar Pick on p. 16.
THE NATIONAL RESERVE Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, this Americana band dips into rock and R&B.
