In addition to bolstering the local Latin music scene with its own meticulous brand of Argentine tango, Athens Tango Project has been responsible for bringing a stream of touring tango acts to town, including several highly regarded groups from South America. The latest of those hits Hendershot’s on Saturday, as Buenos Aires-based Alejandro Ziegler Tango Quartet stops through as part of a North American tour. The band—led by pianist Ziegler and featuring Athens Tango Project members Laura Camacho and John Cooper on bass and violin, respectively—will explore the evolution of tango from its classical form to a more inclusive modern sound.
