Gavin Pretor-Prinney
London native Gavin Pretor-Pinney, founder of the Cloud Appreciation Society, advocates for spending a few moments of each day with your head in the clouds. In addition to being a TED Global speaker, Pinney is the author of Cloudspotter’s Guide, Cloud Collector’s Handbook and The Wavewatcher’s Companion. His lecture will cover how to identify various cloud formations, using works of art from the museum’s permanent collection as examples. The event doubles as an opportunity to purchase A Cloud a Day, a soon-to-be-released book compiling 365 skies that range from works of art to photographs submitted by society members and images taken from space by NASA.
Gavin Pretor-Pinney, founder of the Cloud Appreciation Society, leads an illustrated tour of the sky. Attendees will learn how to recognize a variety of cloud formations and their place in the world of art. See Calendar Pick on p. 15.
