Lydia Brambila
After dropping jaws with the dreamy, impressionistic Migraineur in 2018, Athens singer-songwriter Lydia Brambila returned in December with Ars Apparatus, an equally compelling, eight-song collection of densely constructed, deftly fingerpicked electric folk music. Tracks like “Leo” offer a more immediate take on the somnambulant compositions of Grouper’s Liz Harris, while the bilingual “Marinero” puts Brambila’s hypnotic voice front and center. Others on Thursday’s Flicker bill include Durham, NC, folk-rocker Sun Studies, Asheville, NC, pop songwriter Joshua Carpenter and new Atlanta project Trauma Family, which features members of Little Francis.
LYDIA BRAMBILA Local singer-songwriter plays sparse and haunting folk songs. See Calendar Pick on p. 12.
SUN STUDIES Melodic pop project led by North Carolina songwriter Reid Johnson.
JOSHUA CARPENTER Power-pop singer-songwriter from Asheville, NC.
TRAUMA FAMILY New Atlanta band playing "sometimes raucous, sometimes grim" folk music.
