Grub Notes

Closed

We just heard from Andy Osborne, co-owner of Baxter Street's Gnat's Landing, that the restaurant is closed.

Andy sent the following:

It is with much regret that we have to report the closing of Gnat’s Landing in Athens, GA. It has been our privilege to serve the Athens and Oconee communities for over 4 ½ years. Despite our best efforts, in this economy, we could not sustain the business and continue providing the great service and quality our customers have come to expect.

We want to especially thank our staff, both past and present, who worked with us during this time. Without their effort, we would not have lasted as long as we did. It has been a blessing to have met and worked with them over the years.

Special thanks to Robert Bostock for allowing us to run with this idea. He got us half way up the hill through all his success with the Gnat’s Landing in St. Simons. We just couldn’t get it over the hump. Thanks for everything BOZ!

Rob and I have had a great experience at Gnat’s getting to know you and truly appreciate your patronage and support over the years. I am sure our paths will cross again, so we won’t say good-bye, just HEADING TO THE BEACH, BE BACK SOON!

If you are looking to cannibalize the remains, Williamson Bros. Realty & Auction will be selling off the contents of the building live, on-site, on Tuesday, April 24, at 10 a.m. R.I.P.
