Kate Morrissey: Love Songs for Twins

Delicate, upbeat piano-pop

Kate Morrissey

Kate Morrissey, backed by drummer and guitar player John Norris, has produced a soft compilation of soulful piano tunes that complement her alto voice. Love Songs for Twins is a delicate mix of upbeat pop songs and more reserved folk ballads.

With the piano monopolizing the accompaniment, the album quickly turns into a soundtrack suitable for a coffee shop. There are no huge surprises among the songs, and each of the 10 tracks slowly blends into another. The ideas behind the songs follow the same pattern of blending, as Morrissey croons about new love, lost love, unrequited love—you get the picture.

Morrissey has an incredible vocal range. She easily slides from a deep, sultry alto into a higher register, infusing the songs with an originality lacking in other aspects of the album. Indeed, Morrissey’s vocal talent gives Love Songs for Twins that little extra push that makes it worth hearing.
