LET LOVE IN: The Athens Folk Music and Dance Society is hosting its 11th annual Sweetheart Duets Hoot Monday, Feb. 12 at The Foundry. It runs 8–10 p.m., and admission is free. Performing couples will play a short selection of songs, and the evening is hosted by Pickled Holler’s Jessica and Matthew Williams. Featured couples are Sam Burchfield and Pip the Pansy, John and Sayward Evans, Trish and Jef Whatley, Anna and Lee Hiers, David and Mary Leinweber, Josh and Gabby Daniels and Rachael Renee and Michael Levasseur. EVERYTHING YOU KNOW AND LOVE: Athens pop-rock-indie-experimental band Lo Dodona (pronounced Low Duh-Don-Ah) just released its new five-song EP, Terrorz II, and it pretty much rules. At least, it rules this week. Honestly, opening track “See Something, Say Something” could have easily been on Pavement’s debut 10-inch way back in 1989, and “Transubstantiationz” could’ve slid onto any Young Pioneers record. But the whole thing stands well on its own, and as a listener I was particularly edified by the one-two action of “Monumentz pt.1” and “Monumentz pt. 2.” Between the pair, you’re looking at nearly 20 minutes of music, and I didn’t wanna mention Fucked Up’s The Chemistry of Common Life, but I guess I already did. Still, just because I’m stodgy and prissy with too many reference points in my brain doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the everloving hell outta this, because I certainly did. SATURDAY SINGIN’: Singer and songwriter Sara Zúñiga will celebrate the release of her debut EP Someday Soon at Hendershot’s Coffee Bar Saturday, Feb. 10 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $8 at the door, and Athens rock band Scarlet Stitch will open. Zúñiga’s EP was successfully funded via a Kickstarter campaign last fall. Her band includes Adam Smith (guitar), Luke O’Kelley (drums) and Kamron Munch (bass). WALK TOGETHER, ROCK TOGETHER: The annual Boys Who Rock For Girls, a benefit for Girls Rock Athens, will happen Feb. 9–11. This event has participating artists playing covers of women, trans women and nonbinary artists, and this year, over 20 acts are included. Friday, Feb. 9 happens at Max at 9 p.m. and includes Tight Blacks, Forbidden Waves, Donny Knottsville and The Nice Machine, As Dusk Fades, Enter: The Panda and some guest DJs to close the night. Saturday, Feb. 10 happens at Little Kings at 9 p.m. and includes Knowa Johnson, AJ Griffin, Arcana, Max Talkovich, 10,000 Patriarchs, Blue Blood, Dead Neighbors, Harry Carey and Five Eight. Sunday, Feb. 11 happens at Hi-Lo Lounge at 7 p.m. and features Dan SoHi, Kiffy and Brady O Key, Chip McKenzie, Classic City Jukebox, The Lanes, Blue Bodies and Tabloid. Each night costs $5 at the door, so don’t be a cheapskate. Cough it up.

NO RESERVATIONS: Josh Erwin (Sans Abri, Packway Handle Band) will celebrate the release of his new band’s album Tuesday, Feb. 13 at The World Famous. The band in question is Mermaid Motor Lounge, and the album is named Fits and Starts. While the record isn’t a universe away from his work in Packway, there’s no significant crossover. The album flirts with a more pop-oriented approach and lands a good couple of punches of the Crooked Fingers variety (“Missing Pieces,” “Reel It In”). There are other influences, sure, but that’s the one that stood out to me the most, even though it only covers a couple of songs. WIND AND WAVE: The University of Georgia Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band are hosting a live streaming event Thursday, Feb. 8 from 8–11 p.m. While this activity is new information for me, I’m sure there are a few of you out there already on the techno tip who already knew this.
