The most recent fatal tasering of a citizen by Georgia police occurred Saturday, July 11.
The victim was George Mann, 53, who was tasered during an encounter with five Gwinnett County police officers.
Police say that there was an “altercation” and that Mann “resisted officers.” Immediately after being electroshocked with the taser, Mann “became unresponsive.” He was promptly taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
George Mann is at least the second Georgian to be fatally tasered by police this year, and at least the 20th since 2003.
Claiming that tasers are "less lethal" weapons, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department recently announced that, at a cost of $200,000, it has purchased 145 tasers.
